On May 16, about 150 people participated in the 5th Annual ExpoCulinaria beginning in downtown Rushford. Food and drink samples were offered at Shawnee’s Bar & Grill, Stumpy’s, Jessie Street Java, Pam’s Off-Sale Liquor, Norsland Lefse, Burdey’s Cafe, The Creamery, Rushford Foods, and Ferndale Country Club. Participants raved about the samples, including chicken and Gouda cheese wraps, burger sliders with local Metz Dairy cheeses, chocolate raspberry tart, peach margaritas, lefse wraps, baklava, morel mushroom soup, hummus, stir-fry, fettuccini Alfredo, chicken ranch pizza, several unique flavors of brats, and smoked pork loin sandwiches. Live music could be heard throughout town from the Myrtle Doves at Norsland Lefse, Cat & the Fiddle at Shawnee’s, and the CBB Jazz Combo and guitarist Kerry Klungtvedt at The Creamery. Root River Trail Towns and Turned Write also had displays for guests.
ExpoCulinaria participants had the option of voting for their favorite sample of the evening. Jessie Street Java received top honors with the most votes for guest Chef Rodney Thompson’s Chocolate Raspberry Tart, followed a close second by Burdey’s Cafe’s samples of baklava, morel mushroom soup and hummus, created by Chef Steven Burdey.
Sponsors of the event included Rushford State Bank, City of Rushford Economic Development Authority, Micah Hanson State Farm, AcenTek, Rushford Peterson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Connaughty Sales, Farmers Co-Op Elevator, Merchants Bank, M&M Lawn & Leisure, Norman’s Electric Service, Rushford Women’s Club, Town & Country Women’s Club, and WonderInk Printing.
Thank you to all the participants, restaurants, and event sponsors that made the 5th Annual ExpoCulinaria an entertaining evening in the Rushford Peterson Valley!
